A short checklist before the US overlap

Traders in South Australia often work the local open, step away, then return as US cash begins to stir. The chart they left at lunch is not the chart they meet again.

Before the overlap, we ask students to run a brief checklist:

  1. Which of this morning’s levels still show acceptance — and which were only opening noise?
  2. Has overnight FX or futures already violated a level you planned to defend?
  3. Is your remaining risk budget enough for a second attempt, or should the day be done?
  4. Are you switching timeframe out of boredom rather than structure?

Intraday technical analysis during the overlap rewards patience more than prediction. Spreads can tighten, ranges can expand, and stops that felt generous at 11:00 can feel tight at 01:00. If your foundations plan capped the day at two attempts, the overlap does not reset the counter unless you consciously rewrite the plan — on paper, before the order.

Evening clinics often review this hand-off. Bring both your morning annotations and the overnight print; the contrast teaches more than either alone.
